Art Discussion 2

This week we are going to take a close look at the Art Work featured here.

Do take a close look at it and tell me about the art work. You could make use of the questions below to guide you in talking about the art work or you could talk about it without making reference to the guiding questions.

This piece of work was created by several artists working together on a wall outside Art Room 1 of White Sands Primary School.

  • What would you name this art work?
  • How do you feel when you look at it?
  • What kind of artists created this piece of work?
  • Why do you say that?
  • What would you do if you are placed in this place?
  • What are the main colours you see?
  • Why have the artists used such colours?
  • What insects do you see?
  • What did the artists use to create the insects?

Post your thoughts for me and others to read.

If i was the artist i would name this artwork The Nature. When i first saw this artwork i felt that Mother Nature is very beautiful but the actions of human being has caused Mother Nature to be harmed.I think the artist is someone who loves Nature, flowers, animals and others. There are several buterfly and small colourful flowers. If I were the artist i would paint the buterfly with bright colours to make it shine out among the leaves.I would like to place this piece of artwork in my bedroom or studyroom as i always reminds is that some of our actions led to Gobal Warming and the nature will be gone ,then artwork can only remind our future generation that we destroyed the beautiful nature and they will not have a chance to see Mother Nature.

It soothes and placates...reminds us all that in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life, there is time yet to be like the butterflies and the bees - appreciate what we have and enjoy it!

If i was given a chance, I would name this art work "Lost In The Greenery" or "Among The Lush Greenery Lies A Beautiful Secret". I felt very relaxed when I first looked at this art work because the colours are not so bright. Overuse of bright colours would make my eyes a little sore. In my opinion, the artists who created this art work are very creative as it seems like they made a mirror image of the plants. If i was placed in this place, I would admire the picturesque scenery as I love to look at nature. Nature itself is a work of art. The main colours in this art work are green, yellow and a sky blue. Perhaps the artists have used such colours to make the scene of greenery more realistic. I can also see some butterflies in this art work. I think the artists used ceramic to create the butterflies.

The pupils in this class came up with several names for the art work. Some of the names suggeseted are: Butterfly Park, Butterfly Garden, Green Green Grass with Beautiful Butterflies, Flower Garden and Butterfly Land. They felt relaxed looking at the work. Jason felt surprised because of the beauty of the art work. The pupils were able to identify that Mr Fernando, Mr Foo and the pupils of Siglap Secondary School created the art work because they saw them working on the wall mural. Firas said that he would be lost if placed in the Garden because of the size of the Garden. Jun Xiang would engage in catching the beautiful butterflies. There are different shades of greens as well as yellow in the art work. The butterflies were of different colours. The artists used lots of greens and yellows as these colours represent nature. The shades show texture in the plant life. Ceramic clay was used to create the butterflies in the Garden.

The art is about nature. There won't be much nature nowadays as man has done horrible things to the environment. I think that the artist who created this picture, probably is a nature kind of person as he likes the outdoors very much. He also probably likes animals from nature as there are some in the picture. If man had not done wrong things, I think everyone might have an opportunity to see and discover about what true mother nature means.
